- PDF: the tool reads the selectable text and reconstructs rows and columns by position. Works best on clean, digital PDFs with a table-like layout.
- CSV: parsed directly (comma or semicolon), including quoted fields.
- Everything stays local — the conversion runs in JavaScript in your browser.
When it won't be perfect
Automatic layout detection is a heuristic. Dense tables, multi-column pages, merged cells, or unusual spacing can misalign. And a scanned PDF (an image with no selectable text) can't be read here at all — that needs OCR. For accuracy you can post straight to your books, that's the paid accounts payable automation job, with a QA layer on every document.
